TLC Educational Trust

CC35682

TLC Educational Trust which was established in 2000 for the sole purpose of providing scholarships to learners to study creativity with The Learning Connexion. The recipients of these scholarships are learners who otherwise would not get the opportunity to study and/or are facing extreme hardship.

Our mission is to reduce barriers to education
and to support learners who come from
marginalised situations, never having
successfully studied before, have disabilities or
face significant hardship.
The Trust supports students to study onsite,
from home and prison. We rely on community
support to make a difference.

TLC Educational Trust can not keep up with the current demand of students needing assistance. We do know that what we offer makes a real life changing difference in terms of our learners’ well being and future possibilities by way of furthering their education.

How can you help:

  • Sponsor a scholarship/s in your business
name (get in touch and we can discuss
specifics with you, an example might be a
scholarship for a particular learner focusing
    in the area of printmaking)
  •  Make a one-off donation
    (any amount makes a difference)
  • Set up a regular monthly gift
  • Sponsor a materials kit for a learner in prison
    $225 per learner
  • Support our student pantry to purchase food
    and personal hygiene supplies

In 2024, TLC Educational Trust awarded 111 scholarships valued at over $300,000

It’s made me more resourceful, creative
and inventive thinking, viewing an image,
capturing an idea, reflection, contemplating
the end product.

I can’t pretend it hasn’t been challenging for me, being asked to step out of your comfort zone... but being treated like a real person and being encouraged to express myself through art was totally amazing. Keep it up guys, you make a huge difference to so many lives you have no idea.

Sharon Hall serves as a Trustee of the TLC Educational Trust and brings over two decades of experience in education, leadership, and organisational operations. As the Operations Director, Sharon is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the organisation — guiding decisions that shape the student experience, ensure financial sustainability, and strengthen relationships with key external and government agencies.

Sharon’s journey with the organisation began nearly 20 years ago, initially joining as a Distance Delivery mentor before taking on roles central to the development of the prison programme. Her long-standing commitment to academic quality and organisational growth is reflected in her service on the Academic Board for more than 15 years and as a member of the Management Team for the past 12 years.

Before embarking on her professional career, Sharon studied at Palmerston North Teaching College, later completing a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in ceramics and glass. Her background in the arts and education underpins a creative and student-centred approach to leadership and governance.

Dedicated, insightful, and deeply committed to educational transformation, Sharon continues to play an integral role in advancing the mission and values of the TLC Educational Trust.
